The role of Director of Finance & Project Controls is pivotal in steering our client’s large-scale luxury residential construction projects within the New York City market.
Based in the office and collaborating regularly on-site, the successful candidate will operate at the nexus of finance and operations, ensuring seamless project execution, precise cost management, and accurate financial reporting. This leadership position demands developing and refining financial frameworks, formalising job cost disciplines, and guiding the adoption of scalable systems such as ERP platforms.
You will oversee project financial health, oversee system improvements, and lead forecasting and reporting processes, all while managing cross-functional teams and aligning operational workflows with financial controls.
- Extensive experience (7–15 years) in construction finance, project controls, or job-cost accounting, with expertise in cost-plus and fixed-fee contracts
- Proficiency with AIA billing, WIP schedules, retainage, and percent-complete accounting methodologies
- Strong understanding of subcontractor workflows, vendor management, and change order processes
- History of scaling or improving QuickBooks or similar financial platforms and familiarity with ERP evaluation, design, or implementation
- Knowledge of construction-specific financial software such as Procore Financials, Sage Intacct, or Dynamics
- Advanced Excel skills and a systems-oriented mindset to enhance forecasting, dashboards, and financial analysis
- Experience in high-end residential, complex renovation, or fabrication environments is advantageous
- Familiarity with GAAP, NYC construction regulations, and contractual compliance
