Role: Projects Director
Location: Washington, DC | Onsite 5 Days Per Week
Salary: $170,000-$185,000 Base + Bonus + Benefits
I am currently supporting a confidential search for an experienced Projects Director to lead project delivery across a major, complex campus environment in Washington, DC.
This is a substantial leadership role with responsibility across a portfolio of 60+ buildings, combining project delivery, people leadership, commercial management and full P&L ownership.
The environment is fast-paced, highly visible and complex. I am looking for someone with a strong General Contracting background who can lead from the front, manage multiple priorities and bring structure, accountability and strong commercial oversight to the Projects function.
The Role
As Projects Director, you will lead a dedicated project team and take ownership of projects from initiation through completion.
You will oversee the full project lifecycle including procurement, contracting, planning, execution and closeout, while maintaining strong control across financial performance, risk, staffing and client delivery.
This is a hands-on leadership position and will be based onsite in Washington, DC five days per week.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and develop the Projects team, providing clear direction, coaching and accountability.

Oversee project delivery across a large and complex campus portfolio.

Manage projects from initial planning and procurement through execution and closeout.

Take ownership of project financial performance and full P&L.

Oversee billing, accounts receivable, expenses, staffing and commercial performance.

Lead contract procurement, negotiation, administration and closeout.

Identify complex project risks and develop effective mitigation plans.

Maintain strong oversight of project schedules, budgets, quality and delivery.

Work closely with clients, contractors, consultants and internal stakeholders.

Drive consistency and accountability across project teams.

Identify and resolve complex technical and operational challenges.

Develop and mentor team members, supporting performance and career development.

Work collaboratively across wider business functions to achieve strategic objectives.

Continually improve project processes, standards and ways of working.
The Ideal Candidate
I am looking for a strong construction and project leader who is comfortable operating in a complex, high-profile environment and taking genuine ownership of delivery.
Ideally, you will bring:

Strong General Contracting experience – essential.

Proven experience leading complex construction and capital projects.

Strong people leadership and team development experience.

Experience managing projects through the full lifecycle.

Strong commercial acumen with experience managing project financials and P&L.

Excellent knowledge of procurement, contracts, planning and project execution.

Experience identifying and managing complex project risks.

Strong client and stakeholder management skills.

The ability to lead multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.

A practical, solutions-focused leadership style.

Bachelor's Degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

LEED AP, PMP and/or CCM accreditation would be advantageous.

Ability to work onsite in Washington, DC five days per week.
